First-Ever Syrian Technology Delegation Visits Silicon Valley, Marking Historic Milestone at Computer History Museum
Silicon Valley, CA – February 24 In a historic first, an official Syrian technology delegation visited Silicon Valley this week, marking the first time in history that a Syrian government-led technology delegation convened with Silicon Valley’s leading executives, investors, and innovators.
HE Abdulsalam Haykal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, alongside Jacob McGee, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, led the groundbreaking delegation. SYNC hosted the group at its community Iftar held at the Computer History Museum, the institution dedicated to preserving and celebrating the milestones of the digital age. The venue underscored the significance of the moment: a new chapter in Syria’s engagement with the global technology ecosystem.
Held in collaboration with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the evening convened an exceptional cross-section of technology leaders, policymakers, founders, and investors from across the United States and Syria. The gathering represented Syria’s first formal, technology-focused outreach to Silicon Valley.
Over the past year, Syria’s emerging technology ecosystem has shown early signs of progress, creating renewed momentum for local professionals and entrepreneurs. Several multi-billion-dollar technology infrastructure investments are now underway, signaling strong long-term commitment to digital transformation and connectivity. This unprecedented visit provided a platform to establish direct relationships with Silicon Valley stakeholders, exchange ideas, and explore pathways for sustainable growth and strategic collaboration.
SYNC’s hosting of the delegation reflects its broader mission to bridge global expertise with Syria’s innovation potential. The historic Iftar not only celebrated cultural connection during a meaningful time of year, but also symbolized the opening of a new era of partnership between Syria and Silicon Valley.
“This visit represents a defining milestone,” SYNC shared. “For the first time, a Syrian technology delegation has engaged directly with Silicon Valley’s innovation community. Hosting this moment at the Computer History Museum where the past, present, and future of technology converge made the occasion even more meaningful as we look toward building Syria’s digital future.”
